In their latest project, the client is repurposing an existing commercial building located in the heart of Chatham, with plans to convert it into a modern residential apartment block. DRG has been appointed as the main contractor for the project, with construction commencing in May 2024.

The DRG solution

Waterside Court, formerly an office building, has been comprehensively transformed into 68 premium apartments. The redevelopment began with a full strip-out, followed by extensive structural upgrades and a complete façade enhancement. This included replacing the original SFS framing with robust new blockwork walls to remove the PIR insulation and improve fire and thermal performance. Externally and internally, the three-storey structure was reconfigured to create a diverse mix of one, two, and three-bedroom homes, thoughtfully designed to maximise space, natural light, and modern living standards.

Inside, following the structural alterations, new partition walls and doors were installed to define the individual apartments. The project also incorporated key building improvements, including the installation of both a passenger lift and an EVAC lift to support accessibility and safety. Each apartment has been completed to a turnkey standard, boasting high-specification kitchens, premium bathrooms, and performance-grade flooring throughout, creating high-quality contemporary living spaces.

As part of the final delivery phase, the team successfully completed all testing and commissioning within just six weeks of the power-on date, following the UKPN upgrade to the site’s substation. This refurbishment has resulted in a modern, efficient, and beautifully finished development that significantly elevates the appeal and functionality of Waterside Court.
